International Association of Machinists
Motor City Welfare and Pension Funds

The International Association of Machinists Motor City Health & Welfare Fund is a Taft-Hartley, Multiemployer Trust Fund which was established for the sole purpose of providing health care and related benefits to eligible members and their families. The Fund is structured in such a way to eliminate the normal costs built into most health care plans by eliminating the usual insurance company profits and agent/broker commissions.

The IAM Motor City Health & Welfare Fund is a non-profit, self-funded health care plan. The board of trustees which governs the Fund has retained certain plan professionals to assist in the administration of the Plan. These include a third-party administrator, legal counsel, auditor and actuary. The Fund receives and pays claims from health care providers, through its third-party administrator up to the first $200,000 per eligible family. The trustees have secured stop-loss coverage for amounts in excess of this to guard against extremely large “shock” claims. The Health & Welfare Fund currently has over $8 million in reserves.

The Health & Welfare Fund is open to the public in general but limited to members represented by the International Association of Machinists who are covered under a collective bargaining agreement with an employer. Certain other employers who are not signatory to a CBA with the IAM may participate, with trustee approval, so long as there is a CBA in force with a local union. Additionally, if an employer’s bargaining unit employees participate in the Health & Welfare Fund, the employer’s non-union “office employees’ may be allowed to participate as well under certain circumstances and with trustee approval.

The Health & Welfare Fund provides the following benefits for its participants:
Medical (Utilizing the Health Alliance Plan (HAP) PPO Network)
Prescription (administered through CVS Caremark)
Dental (utilizing the DenteMax Network)
Vision
Short Term Disability
Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Disability
Hour Bank
